At the beginning of the year, on 22 January, the Polish Community Trust organised a summer camp for Polish families from Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Tauranga at the Pacific Park Christian Holiday Camp in Papamoa.

The four-day beach break designed and run by Magdalena James combined Polish language practice and cultural learning activities for the children. Bunk beds, bring-your-own-bedding, kitchen chores and other typical elements of “kolonie letnie” contributed to a feel that parents could easily relate to.

Those who have followed the Polish Community Trust's website updates over the years will no doubt have noticed three little people who attend just about every major event: the Polomka triplets. They were also at the summer camp, as can be seen in the picture above where two of them are tucking in at the table while number three stands in line, maybe for another helping.

However, a much more important event also took place at the camp: the triplets' 8th birthday. It remains unclear though whether the missing piece of cake had already ended up in some other child's stomach, or it sits - obscured by the roll of kitchen towel - in front of the triplet in the middle who seems to be looking down at something very interesting on the table.
