Around Christmas 2015 the Polish Language School in Mt Maunganui began to exchange letters, postcards and souvenirs with the 48th Primary School in Gdansk-Zaspa. Since then children from both countries have been receiving colourful pictures and posters full of interesting information about Poland and New Zealand.

The goal of the exchange is to create friendships, share culture and to expose the children in Mt Maunganui to Polish language while, at the same time, exposing Polish children to English language. So far, both schools have exchanged correspondence related to Christmas, Easter and Mother’s Day. In May they were preparing letters and cards for International Children’s Day on 1 June.

In Mt Maunganui Magdalena James is in charge of the children’s correspondence. In Gdansk-Zaspa it is teacher Malgorzata Pirszel. Both are as excited as the children, who can’t wait for the letters or bigger items - note the big tube from New Zealand in the picture above - to arrive.
