Admittedly, presents may not always arrive on time because of the logistics and cost involved in sending parcels. But the children of both partner schools are trying their best to ensure a timely delivery using "courier services" of adults who travel between the two cities.
Just before Easter a shipment of cards, posters and a map of the Pomeranian Vojvodeship arrived from Gdansk. The presents had been keenly anticipated, were immediately distributed by teacher Magdalena James, and opened with excitement in class (see pictures below).

In return, the children in Mt Maunganui and their teacher have been preparing cards, bookmarks and other presents to be sent to Poland with Joanna Lawson, who is going to Poland in May with her family. Her seven-year-old daughter, Leia, will be the first child from Mt Maunganui's Polish Language School to meet the Polish class in person. Until now only adults have been visiting Poland and deepening ties between the two schools.
One item travelling to Gdanks in Joann's suitcase will be used in Poland for geography and other natural science lessons: a New Zealand jigsaw puzzle. And finally, after formalising the partnership in November 2016, a framed and signed bilingual Memorandum of Understanding will be adorning the classroom in Poland.
