Deszczyk
Deszczyk pada kap, kap, kap jesień w sadach kap, kap, kap. Weź kalosze chlap, chlap, chlap, i chodź ze mną człap, człap, człap. Deszczyk pada kap, kap, kap, wietrzyk wieje mocno tak. Z parasolem szybko tak, po kałużach chlap, chlap, chlap. ------------------------------------------- A Polish children's song, Deszczyk (diminutive for Rain), best sums up the day. The 17th Tauranga Multicultural Festival, held on Saturday, 19 March 2016, turned out to be a rather mixed bag. Dry spells as well an occasional drizzle and also some hefty downpours made it difficult for some of the stage performers to show their acts, with puddles on stage and the audience not as enthusiastic on the soggy lawn in front of them as last year. It was the first festival ever that had not been blessed with warm and dry late summer weather.
However, this did not deter hardy Kiwis and other visitors who had already adopted the local philosophy ("There's no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing") from having a good look around the stalls and tasting the ethnic food on sale. The gazebo of the Polish Community Trust was as busy as in the previous years. The sweets and cakes went like the proverbial hot cakes. According to treasurer Eva Niedzielski it was well worth the effort the kitchen crew had put into baking all sorts of serniki, chrusciki, paczki and other yummy food.
Vice President of the Polish Community Trust, Ewa Fenn, was also this year's Festival Director. Ambassador Zbigniew Gniatkowski and Consul Agnieszka Kacperska lauded her organisational efforts to produce "a marvellous event". In his speech the Ambassador gave an outline of Polish immigration to New Zealand.
